A couple days ago, basketball player Charles Barkley was featured on CNN. During the interview, he spoke out on his feelings about what he called "fake Christians," making specific reference to Evangelical Conservatives' desire to be "judge and jury" when it comes to gay marriage. Well now, the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission are calling for him to retract and apolgize for his comments. Yes, seriously.
Apparently, making defamatory and hateful remarks about entire groups of people in the national media is only permissible when you invoke the name of Jesus while doing so. I wasn't aware that expressing distaste for someone's religious views was both less tolerable and tolerant than constantly condemning gays to hell. I wasn't aware that one was defamatory and discriminatory and the other was a perfectly reasonable expression of opinion.
